One of the things that I love to do is research. It is not always just for the sake of knowing something, but usually, it is for a selfish reason to learn more about something that allows me to do more and enjoy life a little more. This is part of what drives my love of being a gear guy. I like having the best equipment for the right job or at least justify the piece I am using in some shape or form. I like to know if I am using the best item out there or understand what is the best and why I don't need it. Those things drive me and when you also live with a medical condition I find that I drive myself to learn and understand as much about it as I can. With my stoma, I am always looking for the best ostomy gear possible and striving to stay up with the market to make sure that I am living the best life that I can.
See one of my goals is to live my life like I don't even know that I have a stoma. I know that sounds silly, of course I know I have a stoma. But I am hoping that it doesn't get in the way of my daily life. I simply want to live and not think about my stoma or the ostomy bag and the seal that I have on. I want it to work so well that no matter what I am doing the gear I have simply works so well that it disappears in my mind. Just like breathing. I can completely control it if I like, but for the most part, my body does it involuntarily and that is exactly the way I want my stoma to work as well. It is a wild thing to think of it but when you have injuries you start to notice different parts of your body and start to hyper focus on them. This is something that I never wanted to happen with my stoma because I didn't want it to always be on my mind.
This is why I have been led to get into gear and especially finding the best ostomy gear for me. The task is very specific because in teh end it is simply for me. I know my body type is not like everyone else's and my stoma location and shape is not like everyone elses. All of these things come into play when it deals with the type of gear I use. That means that it is very personal and that is why not everyone knows what is the best ostomy bag or seal for you or me. Not everyone has the best skin routine and gear to make sure that I am living a comfortable and happy and healthy life. So this is why it is important to stay up on teh industry.
I like to try new things and to also learn about new products and ideas behind why things are the way they are. I have found that calling up ostomy manufacturers is a great way to learn and to try new things and to also give feedback to them. I want the industry to get better so we all live happy lovely lives.
